CHEST MEDICINE BOARD
If your doctor has identified a focus of concern in your chest, they can refer you to the Hardin Memorial Hospital Chest Medicine Board. This board is a collaborative, multi-disciplinary resource for the management of sub-acute problems (problems not requiring urgent hospitalization) of the chest. The center was designed to streamline the care of these types of problems by allowing patients' health issues to be discussed by a group of healthcare professionals prior to a patient's appointment with a specialist. By taking this coordinated and consistent approach to patient care, a patient's initial visit bypasses the process of being shuffled to several appointments with different specialists.Benefits For Patients:
A doctor’s office will contact our center and, with the patient's permission, give us some basic demographic information. Our coordinator will contact the patient at a time convenient for them and obtain a more thorough history and access to the medical tests that the patient has already completed.
Within two (2) weeks, our multidisciplinary team will discuss the patient's case and we will identify the diagnostic and/or therapeutic options. There is no charge to the patient for this service.
An appointment with one of our board’s specialists will be made for the patient, the specialist will explain your medical situation, the possible courses of action and their risks and benefits.
You and your family members will be given an opportunity to ask questions and to choose the option
you feel most comfortable with.
As you are aware, there are a lot diagnostic tests available for the identification, treatment and follow-up of these problems including:
- Ultrasound scans
- CT scans
- PET scans
- MRI scans
Doctor appointments and ordered tests will be the financial responsibility of the patient. Typically, all of these tests involve doctors of different specialties performing and analyzing the results. Choosing the most essential and efficient tests saves you time and money.
Follow-up will be arranged through your specialist team member. Results of your testing and treatment will be discussed at team conference on an ongoing basis.
You and your referring doctor will be kept informed of your progress and treatments.
