Daily, the Certified Athletic Trainer visits the high school to work with injured student athletes. While at the school, the Certified Athletic Trainer evaluates, records and provides direction in the type of care that is needed for a specific injury. This can include emergency care, treatment on-site, or follow-up with a physician. Assistance is also given with taping and bracing if additional support is needed.
The Certified Athletic Trainer provides information on current issues that coaches need to be aware of that may affect them. This will include any new mandates from the KHSAA that effects the health of the student athlete or information that is being released from the National Athletic Trainer’s Association. The ATC will also provide information about other sports medicine links, which may provide information regarding better ways to care for certain types of injuries.
The care that is provided at the school is FREE of charge to the student athlete. The Certified Athletic Trainers are on-call 24-hours a day, 7-days a week by cell phone to answer any questions that school administrators, parents or coaches may have regarding the health of a student athlete.
