Nursing at HMH is progressive. We value our nurses and offer a wide variety of ways to grow and succeed.

Shared Governance
Hardin Memorial Health Patient Care Services Division promotes shared governance. Shared Governance is defined as “a structural model through which nurses can express and manage their practice with a higher level of professional autonomy.” This implies that the allocation of control, power, or authority (governance) among mutually (shared) interested and vested parties.

Successful and progressive organizations have shifted to a collaborative style of management in which management and employees work as teams or in partnership to realize the mission and values of the organization. Successful organizations are beginning to realize that cost-effective quality service is delivered by a team of professionals who have internalized passion for patient care, who are committed to the organization, and who are empowered to practice their profession without unnecessary restraint.
By valuing and operationalizing the concept of collaborative management, shared governance frameworks can be developed to encourage management and staff partnerships, enhance the professionalism of the organization, and promote role satisfaction among professionals.

Career Advancement Program (CAP)
The Career Advancement Program was a product of the Professional Development Council (PDC). The PDC researched, developed and gained approval from Senior Leadership for the program with input from multidisciplinary team members. The CAP program is designed to recognize and reward the accomplishments and commitment to patient care by Registered Nurses. Applicants for the program must meet requirements for each level and maintain the requirements for the level each year to continue on the program. The initial application phase began in October of 2012. Today we have 21 applicants in the program.
