Hardin Memorial Health Auxiliary volunteers focus much of their time and energy on solving problems. They work, dedicating and donating several hours each month to fulfilling HMH’s mission of exceeding the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients, their families, and the physicians and staff through high-quality, comprehensive care.
In the past six months, three major projects were completed thanks to the volunteer efforts of HMH Auxiliary and funds raised from the Auxiliary Gift Shop – the cafeteria renovation, Palliative Care Room and new AV equipment for hospital meeting rooms.
- Cafeteria Renovation
- The Auxiliary donated $25,000 to assist with new flooring, tables and chairs in the cafeteria. The newly renovated cafeteria is an attractive complement to the new and improved food service HMH provides.
- Palliative Care Room
- HMH staff wanted to provide a soothing, comforting environment within the Palliative Care Unit for families who spend numerous hours at the bedside of a loved one. To help the staff realize their dream, the HMH Auxiliary donated nearly $2,500 to furnish the room.
- AV Equipment for hospital meeting rooms
- With aging video projectors in all the hospital’s meeting/community rooms, new audio/visual equipment throughout was essential. The new, high-tech equipment mirrors HMH’s dedication to cutting-edge technology. The Auxiliary committed $22,000 to assist in this essential endeavor.
HMH is the region’s healthcare system of choice and it’s important for its resources to reflect that, HMH Auxiliary President Hans Marsen said.
“Projects like each of these three demonstrate HMH’s dedication to healing,” Marsen said. “We know healing occurs when we meet the needs of patients, their families, our physicians and staff and our community.”
More than 140 Auxiliary volunteers donate 36,000-plus hours annually. If you are interested in volunteering with the HMH Auxiliary, please Volunteer Services at (270) 706-1713 or visit the HMH Auxiliary website, www.hmhvolunteers.com.
