HMH Auxiliary promotes volunteerism, grows numbers

Aux gift shopHardin Memorial Health relies on the kindness and selflessness of hundreds of volunteers. The HMH Auxiliary each year donates more than 40,000 volunteer hours and raises thousands of dollars, which are reinvested in HMH through major gifts.

Throughout National Healthcare Volunteer Week, April 24-29, HMH would like to celebrate our volunteers and the good work they do to serve HMH.

In 2016, the HMH Auxiliary Board developed a strategic plan to promote volunteerism around the hospital and in the community by growing the Auxiliary to enhance community outreach.

To raise volunteer awareness, the Auxiliary submitted press releases and news briefs to news media; created a volunteer website; and regularly recognized on social media the good work volunteers performed. They held ceremonies to honor volunteer donations and developed a Volunteer of the Month award.

To increase the roster of volunteers, the Auxiliary president and leaders spoke to several local organizations and made appearance on radio shows discuss the good work and fun times had by Auxiliary volunteers. They also reached out to schools to encourage teens to volunteer, and created bookmarks with volunteering data and contact information for prospective volunteers.

Because of this concerted effort, HMH Auxiliary gained ten new volunteers in the first three months of 2017.

More than 140 Auxiliary volunteers donate 36,000-plus hours annually.  If you are interested in volunteering with the HMH Auxiliary, please Volunteer Services at (270) 706-1713 or visit the HMH Auxiliary website, www.hmhvolunteers.com.
