Hardin Memorial Health (HMH) and HMH Foundation were included in the News-Enterprise’s top 2018 stories. Voting was conducted by News-Enterprise newsroom staff members as well as the newspaper’s editorial board.
The sale of HMH to Baptist Health in May 2018 was the top story of 2018. The HMH Board of Trustees voted 8-1 to approve the sale of the health system to long-time manager Baptist Health. The vote was taken at the May meeting of the Hardin County Fiscal Court, whose members also serve as the HMH Board of Trustees. Under the terms of the asset purchase agreement (APA), Baptist Health will acquire all assets of HMH and, in return, will commit $235 million over 10 years to HMH in operating and capital investments.
HMH Foundation’s $2,500,000 gift from Rita and Robert Robbins, M.D. – the largest in the Foundation’s history and one of the largest announced in our community – was the ninth most meaningful story of the past year. Robbins, a retired Hardin Memorial Health (HMH) surgeon and longtime entrepreneur and his wife Rita, a retired nurse, helped HMH establish a philanthropic Foundation many years ago and again when it was reconstituted. The couple hopes to donate a grand total of $5 million with a planned future estate gift.
