Hardin Memorial Health understands the challenges of living with a serious, life-limiting illness. Our Palliative Care team focuses on helping our patients gain relief from symptoms and stress, whatever the diagnosis, and to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.
“There’s a misconception that palliative care is end-of-life care,” said Shirley Kinser, manager of Palliative Care at HMH. “There are no time restrictions. Patients can receive palliative care at any stage of an illness, whether it be terminal or not.”
According to the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC), palliative care focuses more broadly on improving life and providing comfort to people of all ages with serious, chronic and life-threatening illnesses.
Our palliative team helps participating patients and their families establish goals so they can live with and not in competition with their illness.
