Medicare transitioning to new, more secure cards

Medicare CardsMedicare patients will soon have a more secure and safe Medicare card. Between April 2018 and April 2019, new cards without Social Security numbers will be mailed to each patient, which provides an added way to protect your identity.

Patients will receive a new, unique Medicare number only used for Medicare coverage. No benefits or coverage will change with the new card, and more information will be included with the card when it is mailed.

To help ensure the process runs smoothly, make sure your mailing address is up to date. If it needs to be changed, contact Social Security at ssa.gov/myaccount or 800-772-1213. TTY users can call 800-325-0778. Also, we will never ask for personal or private information to get your new Medicare number and card, so beware of anyone contacting you for that information.
