Meet Our New Providers (2016)

Hardin Memorial Health’s Medical Group is proud to welcome 11 new doctors to the HMH team.  Both the volume and the quality of these providers is an impressive feat.  Learn more about these outstanding providers committed to serving the 400,000 residents of our 10-county region.

Dr. Bethany Haynes

bethany hayesDr. Bethany Haynes is a native of Hopkins County, Kentucky. She attended the University of Kentucky for undergraduate, a Master in Business Administration as well as Medical School. She completed a combined Residency Program in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Vidant Medical Center/East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. This provided her with dual training to practice as both an Internist and Pediatrician.

Dr. Aaron Mulhall

Mulhall-AaronDr. Aaron Mulhall, a Louisville native, is a board certified physician in Internal Medicine & Pulmonary Medicine. Dr. Mulhall completed medical school at the University of Louisville and his residency at the University of Cincinnati. He also completed a fellowship at Cincinnati and is interested in a wide range of lung-related issues and diseases.

Dr. Jerry FikhmanDr. Jerry Fikhman

Dr. Jerry Fikhman is a native of San Diego, California and came to the Bluegrass State for both medical school and his residency at the University of Kentucky. He is a board certified Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, Throat / Head and Neck Surgeon). He also completed a pediatric fellowship at the University of California – San Diego. Dr. Fikhman enjoys the challenges and rewards of working with children and their families.

Dr. Fikhman enjoys playing tennis, table tennis, and biking. Away from the office, you can also find him working on cars, restoring historic bicycles, and building radio control cars. aleksander smithDr. Aleksander Smith

Dr. Aleksander Smith is a native Kentuckian and is returning to practice medicine as an Ear, Nose and Throat physician in his home state. Dr. Smith completed medical school at the University of Kentucky and his residency at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Smith is a staunch patient advocate and has been recognized for his outstanding patient care. Dr. Smith now calls Elizabethtown his home. Dr. John PendletonDr. John Pendleton

Dr. John Pendleton is a practicing General Surgeon, with special interests in gallbladder disease, colon surgery, endoscopy, breast cancer, hernia repair, gastrointestinal surgery and skin/soft tissue surgery. After graduating from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Dr. Pendleton completed his residency and fellowship at Eastern Virginia University School of Medicine.

A native of Louisville, Dr. Pendleton now calls Elizabethtown home. When he is not caring for his patients, he enjoys spending time with his family. Dr. Chandler Park

Dr. Chandler Park

Dr. Chandler Park is a native Kentuckian and is happy to return home to practice hematology and medical oncology with Hardin Memorial Health. Dr. Park completed medical school at the University of Louisville, residency at Indiana University and a fellowship at West Virginia University. On top of being a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and board certified physician, he has authored numerous scientific research papers in leading cancer journals.

Dr. Park has been recognized as Distinguished Alumnus of Hardin County Schools. In his free time, he loves spending time with family and friends, golfing, traveling and watching live sporting events. Dr. Ashley KerekesDr. Ashley Kerekes

Dr. Ashley Kerekes is the first female plastic surgeon in the HMH service area. As a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Kerekes specializes in areas such as wound reconstruction, skin cancer removal, reconstructive breast surgery and more. A native of West Virginia, she graduated from the West Virginia University School of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of Kentucky.

When she is not caring for her patients, Dr. Kerekes enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, being outdoors and rooting for the WVU Mountaineer football team. Laura Buchanan, M.D.Dr. Laura Buchanan

Dr. Laura Buchanan is a gastroenterologist who considers it a privilege to practice medicine in the community where she grew up. Dr. Buchanan attended North Hardin High School and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Kentucky. After her undergraduate studies, she graduated from the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine. As a gastroenterologist, she works with patients dealing with digestive issues, such as acid reflux, liver disease, swallowing problems and more.

In her free time, she enjoys playing piano, golfing, hiking and painting. Dr. Buchanan and her family love living in Hardin County and being able to serve the community here. Dr. Jay B. Oberoi

Dr. Jay B. Oberoi is an Internal Medicine Physician/Hospitalist, meaning he has a clinical focus on caring for hospital patients. Dr. Oberoi has spent the last three years at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Illinois as a Resident Physician. After graduating from St. Louis University with his undergraduate degree in Biology, Dr. Oberoi completed his medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Dominica.

Dr. Joseph Valayam

Dr. Joseph Valayam is an interventional cardiologist and board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology and echocardiography. A native of Kerala, India, Dr. Valayam’s graduated from the Medical College Kottayam (India) and completed in his first residency at Kasturba Medical College (India). His second residency was completed at Baylor College of Medicine with his fellowships done at the University of Louisville.

Throughout his extensive medical training in the United States, he became an American citizen. Dr. Valayam lives in Elizabethtown with his wife and daughter and enjoys traveling and reading. Dr. Valerie FisherDr. Valerie Fisher

Dr. Valerie Fisher is a Hospitalist, which means her focus is on providing quality care for patients while they are in the hospital. Dr. Fisher completed her undergraduate degree, medical school degree and residency at the University of Kentucky. Raised in a small town environment, Dr. Fisher looks forward to becoming an integral part of the Hardin County community while providing comprehensive medical care.
